A diagram made for sharing
SVG is a vector image, so pieces and coordinates remain clear in a lesson handout, presentation, article or message. The generated file contains the whole board and uses standard chess symbols. No image is uploaded or stored.
FAQ
Creating chess position diagrams
How do I create a chess diagram from FEN?
Paste a playable FEN, select Apply FEN, then choose the board orientation, coordinates and side-to-move label. The preview and SVG download update from that exact position.
Can I edit the chess position before downloading it?
Yes. Place, move or erase pieces on the board editor, then set the side to move and castling rights. The diagram updates when the edited position is legal.
Why does this generator download SVG instead of PNG?
SVG remains sharp at any size in lesson notes, web pages, presentations and printed material. The download is self-contained and does not need a Chessdesk account.
What makes a FEN valid for this generator?
The FEN needs eight complete ranks, both kings, a valid side to move and a legal position. The generator rejects malformed or impossible positions rather than exporting a misleading diagram.
