These terms govern your use of chessdesk, including the website, the free chess tools, and accounts. By using chessdesk, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. If you use chessdesk on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms on its behalf.
chessdesk is a chess training platform: free tools (game import and review, puzzles, analysis) available to everyone, plus account features and an optional paid Premium plan and coaching subscriptions. Some features — the repertoire builder, the opening-tree explorer, and the Woodpecker Method — require a Premium subscription, or are available to a student during a live lesson with their coach. We may add, change, or remove features over time.
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for activity that happens under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when you sign up and to keep it current. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to create an account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
chessdesk offers a free plan and paid subscriptions. The Premium plan ($14.90/month) unlocks the repertoire builder, the opening-tree explorer, and the Woodpecker Method for individual players. Coaches can subscribe to a plan that raises how many students they can take on (Free up to 3, then $14.90, $24.90, or $34.90 per month for larger rosters). Prices are in US dollars; applicable taxes may be added at checkout.
Payment is processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details. Subscriptions renew automatically each period unless you cancel beforehand, from your account settings or the Stripe customer portal. When you cancel, your paid access continues until the end of the current billing period, after which your account returns to the free plan. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods.
Because a subscription gives you immediate access to a digital service, you expressly request that it begin at once and acknowledge that you therefore waive the 14-day right of withdrawal that would otherwise apply to distance contracts, to the extent permitted by law. Statutory consumer rights that cannot be waived are unaffected.
You agree to use chessdesk lawfully and reasonably. In particular, you agree not to:
When you fetch games by username, those games come from public Chess.com and Lichess APIs, and your use of that data is subject to those services and their terms. chessdesk is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chess.com or Lichess.
chessdesk is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of analysis, and uninterrupted availability. Engine evaluations and best-move suggestions are provided for study and may be incomplete or incorrect; you rely on them at your own discretion.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, chessdesk and the people behind it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the service.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, chessdesk's aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to these terms or the service will not exceed the total amount you have paid to us in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim. If you have not paid any amounts, our aggregate liability will not exceed ten US dollars ($10). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
You may stop using chessdesk at any time and may request deletion of your account. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms or use the service in a way that risks harm to it or to other users. On termination, your right to use the service ends; certain provisions, such as the disclaimers and limitations above, survive.
We may update these terms as the service changes. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Your continued use of chessdesk after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of Poland, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
