Can I play chess against a bot for free without signing up?
Yes. All 41 ChessDesk bots, from 400 to 2400 Elo, and the custom-level bot are free to play in your browser with no account, no download and no game limit. An account is only needed to save your games and keep their reviews.
What is the best free website to play chess against a bot at my level?

Can I choose the exact rating of the bot?
Yes. Choose “Build your own opponent” and set its strength anywhere from 400 to 2400 in 10-point steps, then pick White, Black or a random colour.
Are ChessDesk bots human-like?
Yes. The bots run Maia, a neural network trained on real human games, so they choose the moves a player of that rating tends to choose, including human-looking mistakes. On very slow devices the bot falls back to a strength-limited Stockfish so the game still works.
Can I start from a custom position?
Yes. Paste a FEN before you start and you play from that position against any bot. You take the side to move. It is a good way to practise an opening line, a middlegame plan or an endgame technique.
How do I save and review my game against the bot?
When the game ends, choose “Save & review this game”. Create a free ChessDesk account and the game is saved to your library with its full engine review: accuracy, the moves that decided the game, and the mistakes worth training. Signed-in players have every game saved automatically.
Can I review a game without an account?
Yes. “Quick review without saving” opens the free game review in your browser. It is not kept, so create a free account if you want to find the game again or train its mistakes later. You can also copy or download the PGN.
Do I need to install anything? Does it work on a phone?
No install. The bot runs inside your browser on desktop, tablet or phone. The first game downloads the small engine once; after that new games start quickly.
How do bot ratings compare to Chess.com or Lichess ratings?
Bot ratings are approximate strength settings, not a prediction of your online or FIDE rating. Use them to find a fair fight: if you win most games, move up a rung; if you lose most, step down.
